Advisory Scientific Committee for Madrid Congress about 4IR & ETHICS FROM A LEGAL GENDER PERSPECTIVE
(the Congress will take place on 21 and 22 November 2019 in Alcalá de Henares / Madrid)
“The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) is the fourth major industrial era since the initial Industrial Revolution of the 18th century. It is characterized by a fusion of technologies that is blurring the lines between the physical, digital, and biological spheres, collectively referred to as cyber-physical systems. It is marked by emerging technology breakthroughs in a number of fields, including robotics, artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, quantum computing, biotechnology, the Internet of Things, the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), Blockchain, fifth-generation wireless technologies (5G), additive manufacturing/3D printing and fully autonomous vehicles.”
The European Women Lawyers Association (EWLA) is registered in Belgium as an international non-governmental, non-profit, association (Association Internationale Sans But Lucratif). It is a federation of national women lawyers associations from amongst the European Union countries and those of EFTA countries. Members of EWLA are also individual women lawyers and academics from these countries. EWLA pursues the co-operation of European women lawyers, in order to combine their specific expertise in monitoring law and politics seen from the angle of fundamental rights, and in particular gender equality.
We want to understand where the challenges lie, especially for women lawyers, whether they are working in public administration or the private sector, as judges or consultants. We want to understand where the challenges, advantages, solutions and future lie and also in which way we can be active change agents within the 4IR; how are we able to judge, to work in public administration, to consult if we don’t take part in the 4IR? We have to be proactive actors, that’s why we have to understand the very fast changes happnening around us.
We think that this topic can only be discussed with a very transversal perspective and we would like to publish the outcome of the congress.
From the beginning on, we would like to involve as many stakeholders as possible. We think a multistakeholder approach is the best way of covering all the different aspects within the 4IR ethics and the EU gender equality acquis.
We would like to invite you to be part of the scientific committee in order to prepare the congress content wise.
Why you? You have been proposed to us by our board, that’s why we are reaching out to you.
How much time do you have to invest and what is your commitment? This depends on you: if you want to suggest a topic in writing, participate in the conference call, be a speaker at the conference, etc. All input is welcome.
What do you get from this? We are a well known and important European NGO and we issue a certificate of your appointment as Advisor to the Scientific Committee and – if you wish so – give you visibility on our website and social media as member of the Advisory Scientific Committee. Our network is very interesting and we have many high-level members all over the world.
What do you have to do? Advise us on what you think a congress about 4IR & Ethics & EU gender equality acquis should tackle. This can be done in writing by sending us keywords, a proposal for keynote topics or proposal for a keynote speaker (which could also be yourself). You could also participate in the online meeting(s).
First online meeting: 14.02.2019 at 17h00 – 18h00 Madrid time.
Do you have to travel? We haven’t planned a face-to-face meeting yet. If you wish to have one, we could organise one.
Do you have to participate at the congress on 21 and 22 November 2019 in Alcalá de Henares /Madrid? If you want to be keynote speaker or if you want to participate at the congress you are more than welcome. At the moment we don’t have sponsors, so we would not be able to cover travel expenses or accommodation.
